Is it Possible to Charge an Electric Car at a Campsite?
Campsites up and down the UK are now more prepared than ever before for electric cars to pitch up, with charging points available for EV drivers. As the numbers of greener fully electric models on the road increase, the landscape is adapting. Supermarkets, motorway services, public car parks are all prime locations for those driving that need a charge, and campsites welcoming guests are now following suit.
The Caravan and Motorhome Club are paving the way for ecotourism, offering charging points at the majority of their campsites ready to help those who have made the switch. Any pitch that has an electric hook-up bollard can be used to charge an EV or hybrid model. Plugging into the campsite charge points for a top-up and the fact that most local supermarkets now have EV charging points available mean it is easy to enjoy a camping experience with an EV.
Equipment for an EV Adventure
The team at Volt-Age have all the equipment you need for an EV adventure. You can pop down to our office in Portsmouth to collect a hired EV, or we can drop it off at your address. Either way, we have all the accessories required for a successful camping trip including roof bars and roof boxes, so that you can make the best of your trip.
We have a number of EVs that have ample space for tents, cooking equipment, children and everything else required for a family trip away. Another frequent request from those looking to explore outdoors is bike racks. We have a number of these that can be added to any EV hire so that our customers can get out and explore on two wheels as well as four.
Can You Tow with an Electric Vehicle?
At Volt-Age we are fortunate enough to have some EV models which are more than capable of towing a caravan or trailer, such as the Tesla Model X. Not only this, we have all the towing equipment required available including tow bars. If you can’t wait to getaway over the summer on a UK break, then please do get in touch and we can make it happen with an EV.
Not all EVs are suitable for towing, but our team are hand to give you guidance. This is often down to the weight of batteries and adding extra mass can be problematic as the additional weight of towing is likely to cause damage. Any of the Volt-Age team will be happy to help and make sure that if you do plan on towing a caravan instead of packing a tent, that we find a suitable model.

National Trust Sites with Charge Points
Aside from most modern campsites having EV charging points, many of the National Trust sites across Great Britain have a charging point too, so that you can enjoy a day out and leave the car to charge at the same time.
